Dan In The Offerverse : 2nd of December 2024

With less than a month to go until Christmas (eek!) it’s a good time to look at cutting-costs- but-not-quality for one of the biggest expenses of the year - the Christmas food shop.

If you’re stuck in a rut when it comes to the big festive shop and always buy the same products from the same place, you might be wondering if there’s a better option. The short answer is: yes!

The long answer is given by our brilliant Dan, who researched the best deals on delicious food in two different installments, with a round-up of the best places to shop below and an extra special column on Christmas supermarket cashback on Monday 9 December.

How to get a cracking deal on Christmas puds

Next to the gravy, a Christmas pudding can make or break the main event. If you’ve ever had a dry, disappointing pud it might have put you off. But a rich, succulent dome, laced with just the right amount of booze is something that you’re going to want to eat out of the bowl when you’re back in the kitchen after clearing the plates away.

According to the testing-go-to organisation Which? the top tasting Christmas pudding is also one of the cheapest, from Asda where you can use HyperJar cashback to make it even cheaper.

So the winning pud from Asda is considerably cheaper than many of its rivals.  And don’t forget that if you buy a HyperJar Cashback Voucher for Asda you can get 3% cashback to spend with Asda next time, or 2.5% cashback to spend anywhere. A delicious deal.

Magnificent mince pies for less

A great mince pie should be rich and fruity inside with a melting, buttery pastry. But which supermarket should you head to for the best of the best?

Waitrose may be one of the more expensive places to buy mince pies, but in this case they’re rated significantly higher than the second best from Aldi. Use a HyperJar Cashback Voucher to get a little luxury for less - you can get 2% cashback to spend with Waitrose next time.

The perfect Prosecco - for under a tenner!

A glass of fizz (or two) can be an essential part of Christmas day. But we all know Prosecco can vary hugely in terms of bubble-size, crispness, aftertaste and overall drinkablity.

According to the experts at The Independent, the best supermarket Prosecco is from Tesco - at just £9 a bottle.

Here’s the list in full so you can see paying more doesn’t necessarily guarantee a better quality.

While a gold bottle may look fancy, it clearly doesn’t guarantee great taste. Your best bet for fizz is Tesco Finest or Waitrose (for Kylie Minogue Rose prosecco). If you’re in the mood for pink bubbles, don’t forget to buy Waitrose Cashback Vouchers to get an instant 2% cashback to spend next time.

In Other News:

If you have an expensive outdoorsy hobby like ski-ing make the most of Black Friday weekend to grab some upmarket gear for less. North Face is offering 30% off all orders over £200 and there’s up to 50% off at Mountain Warehouse with an extra 10% using code BFEXTRA10.
