Teens Prepaid Debit Card FAQs
HyperJar teen cards are available if you’re 17 or under. You can apply for your own HyperJar account if you’re 16+ as long as you have your own phone, email and bank account.
There’s a one-off £4.99 fee for teen cards but we credit the adult’s account with a £5 Amazon voucher for each card ordered. Other than that it’s easy to keep the account 100% fee-free by making sure deposits into the adult’s HyperJar account are for £10 or more, and not moving money from the HyperJar account back to a bank account more than 4 times each calendar month. More details here: https://hyperjar.com/fees-limits
Cards usually arrive within a week of ordering.
There’s a great balance between spending independence (no need to carry cash around) and a bit of help from your parents (they can top up money on your card instantly). It’s also a way to grip healthy money habits for life by showing you how much is coming in, helping you to organise it to pay for what you want and making it easy to create shared jars with friends so you can save and spend together.
If you think your card has been lost or stolen, you can freeze it in your app immediately from the Profile tab>Manage Card. You can do this from your own app, or your parent’s app. If you can’t find the card, you should then contact us via Live Chat for more help and to order a new one (there’s a £4.99 charge for a replacement card).
Teens under 18 can't get a credit card, but a HyperJar prepaid debit card allows you to have financial independence without the risk of overspending or getting into debt. A prepaid debit card can be loaded with money and used as an alternative to cash or a credit card for spending. With the HyperJar teen debit card, you can start spending independently, learn to manage money, and budget for purchases - and you can’t spend more than you have in your account. Learn more here
