Yes, the prepaid card is safe for everyone to use. We understand that grandparents might be cautious about using a new card and app and entering their data to set up an account, but we use bank-grade 256-bit encryption to keep money and data safe. They can also opt to access their account via passcode, Face ID or Touch ID for extra security. All money in a HyperJar account is kept in segregated accounts at the Bank of England.
They can use your prepaid HyperJar card anywhere Mastercard is accepted. So pretty much everywhere in the UK and abroad.
Grandparents don’t need to remember a pin as the HyperJar prepaid card is contactless for transactions of £100 and under. However, for every five contactless transactions, they’ll be asked for their pin. That’s a security measure to ensure lost cards can’t be used ad infinitum without authorisation. The great news is that with the HyperJar app there’s a quick way to access a PIN reminder in the app so no feats of memory are required.
Yes, to use the HyperJar prepaid card with Apple Pay or Google Pay, they just have to head to their digital wallet and tap the + button to get started.
After they’ve downloaded the HyperJar app and been verified, it takes around a week for their card to arrive. Then they simply have to activate it in their app - another security measure - and they can start using it.

Adult cards are free, and the app is free to download and use, with no monthly fees, from the App Store and Google Play Store.
Yes, you will get a notification each time the card is used in a shared Jar. You can also see where it’s used, for example in ASDA or to pay for public transport.
To keep your money safe, you can set up only or never lists. You can choose to only allow the card to be used in supermarkets, for example. Or block pubs and retailers not needed for childcare purposes.
