Why choose HyperJar for SEN kids?

HyperJar is a safe, structured way for children with special educational needs including autism or ADHD to develop money management skills, independence, and gain confidence. The app uses a visual ‘jam jar’ system, an intuitive way to manage money according to how you want to spend or save it.

Adults can order prepaid debit cards for their children aged 6-16, which work anywhere that Mastercard is accepted and can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay for even safer spending. You’ll be notified on your phone every time they use their card so you’ll always know what’s been spent and where.

Benefits of a HyperJar card for Special Educational Needs kids

While children get their own payment card and the sense of independence that comes with that, parents and carers can decide how much, what and where their child spends.

HyperJar kids’ cards can’t be used at ATMs, so there are no worries about carrying cash around. If the card is ever lost, it can be frozen from the app instantly to stop any further spending (and unfrozen the moment the card is found).

HyperJar SEN kids’ card FAQs

How can HyperJar help SEN kids?

HyperJar’s visual digital jam jar system can be a real help to people who find lists and the black & white ledgers of traditional accounts a bit overwhelming - or just tricky to interpret . Each jar can be named and colour coded by the child to help with organisation, while goal-setting features encourage planning skills. Being able to allocate spending in advance supports impulse control, and the prepaid card ensures safe, controlled spending without the risk of debt or need to carry cash.

How does HyperJar support children with ADHD?

Children with ADHD can struggle with impulse spending and organisation. HyperJar helps by allowing parents to pre-allocate money into specific jars for different spending categories, reducing impulsive purchases and making. The visual and structured nature of the app makes it easier for kids to understand where their money is going, reinforcing good habits over time.

How does HyperJar benefit autistic children?

Many autistic children find comfort in routine and clear structure. HyperJar’s visual budgeting system lets them see exactly how much money they have and what it's for, reducing anxiety around spending. The ability to label and colour-code Jars creates a predictable and structured way to manage money.

Can HyperJar help teach financial independence to neurodivergent kids?

Yes. HyperJar allows kids to make spending decisions within safe limits set by parents. They can learn how to budget, save, and make mindful financial choices in a supportive environment. This hands-on experience builds confidence and independence.

Is HyperJar safe for children?

Absolutely. The HyperJar Kids Card is a prepaid card, meaning there’s no risk of overdraft or debt. Parents have full visibility and control over spending, and kids can only spend what’s in their jars.

Can HyperJar help reduce anxiety around money?

Yes. Many neurodivergent children feel overwhelmed by money management. HyperJar’s clear, visual system helps reduce uncertainty and build confidence, making money a less stressful topic.

Can my child use HyperJar independently?

Children aged six and up can have a HyperJar Kids Card, but parents remain in control. As they grow, they can start making more independent decisions while still benefiting from guidance and oversight.

Can my child have the app on their phone?

Yes, if your child has their own phone and email address they can download a version of the app. They’ll be able to create their own jars and move money between them, but you will still have oversight and get notifications every time money is moved or spent.

Can kids get cash out with the HyperJar prepaid debit card?

No, we don’t allow cash withdrawals with HyperJar cards.
